The MNR has decided to use three locations for head collection this year, our ramp being one. This will supplement the efforts by the MNR creel census program, providing valuable data to assist with the analysis of stocking efforts. Attached is an outline of the process. Basically anglers that decide to harvest a Chinook Salmon are being asked to submit the head to the MNR. Salmon should not be harvested to simply provide a sample, and clipped Chinook Salmon only are to be sampled. The angler records the fork length and date on the label provided, placing both in a supplied freezer bag. Heads will be collected at the ramp for pickup by the MNR. If they prefer to harvest the head at home, anglers will be given a label and freezer bag to be submitted to us later. The head must be frozen if not provided the same day.
