Today we mourn the passing of a long time and valued SSG&F member that promoted the outdoors through instruction and organizing events that touched many. Ross will be missed by all that knew him.
From the notice for Darte Funeral Home:
MacSPORRAN, Ross Malcolm William September 17, 1933- September 15, 2013 Surrounded by his loving family at the St. Catharines General Hospital, Ross passed on to fishing the bountiful waters of Heaven. Loving husband of Barbara for 53 years. Proud father of Brenda (Aaron) Newhouse, and Jeffrey, David (Dawn) and Kenneth MacSporran. Cherished Grampy of Billy, Leah and Darius who will miss him dearly. Ross retired in 1996 from the St. Catharines Standard. Ross was an avid sportsman in fishing and hunting. Ross was also a "Tournament Caster" and a member of the Toronto Sportsmen's Association. Ross taught all his children and grandchildren the rewards and benefits of protecting our outdoors while enjoying everything it has to offer. As Ross has so patiently taught us it is now time for us to "catch and release". Everyone will always remember Ross when we cast our lures into Lower Buckhorn Lake or load the shotgun during hunting season. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Mr. MacSporran's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, September 19th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, September 20th at 11am with a private family inurnment at a later time. If desired, memorial donations to the Lung Association or Ducks Unlimited would be appreciated by the family. Forever in our hearts and memories til we fish together again. Love you Dad/Pops!
