Seasons greetings!
Special thanks to Dagmar Miller and Dawn Ferrier for calling everyone to ensure a well attended Christmas Potluck. Our little clubhouse was packed with over 60 attending, some old faces that have been out of contact for some time and some new. Everyone I have spoken to since the event was thrilled.
The Pen Imprinting project continues to gather support. Most recently Wayne Andrews and Darryl Choronzey pledged a second pen in the memory of John Power, well know writer and outdoorsman who passed away this fall.
All of the authorizations remain pending as planned meetings had to be postponed. Everyone involved remains very optimistic that the club can fast track the project to commence in the spring of 2009.
December 8th was the meeting in Niagara Falls with the Fish & Wildlife Heritage Commission, a group of well spoken and experienced outdoors enthusiasts from all areas of our province. Their meetings with individuals and organization representatives around the province ensure our concerns receive appropriate consideration in the management of our natural resources. In their position they report to and provide recommendations directly to the minister of Natural Resources.
Some of the areas of concern that were raised by your area representatives included: municipal license requirements, extra deer tag dispensing, public land access, cost of watershed control dam maintenance, loss of water accessibility, cormorant infestation, MNR enforcement and preventive instruction, negative public perception of hunting and fishing and the inclusion of outdoors education in school curriculum.
We welcome your feedback, suggestions and questions. Please contact us at st.catharinesgamefishasso@bellnet.ca .
