While it seems that not that long ago anglers were waiting for safe ice, the club is already busy getting prepared for the new open water season.
All the required approvals have been obtained for the new Chinook Pen Imprinting Project and activity is now focused on having the pen built and raising funds to cover expenses. Pen rearing is a long-term project with an annual commitment to nurture fry to their smolt stage. Based on US and north shore Lake Ontario project results the Port Dalhousie area will enjoy a stronger more consistent late summer and early fall fishery when the mature salmon return. Stay tuned to the project by visiting the Pen Imprinting Project Forum.
The Annual Spring Derby plans are well under way with some changes based on feedback from the angling community. Yvan Charrois has taken the lead on resurrecting the popular pre-derby seminar at the CAW on Bunting Road in St. Catharines scheduled for Monday March 30th. Details will be posted in the tournament forum as they are confirmed.
Dagmar Miller continues to be the driving force that marks the ongoing success for Kid’s Day Fishing Derby. Scheduled for Saturday May 2nd this year will mark the 15th anniversary for the event. Make a note on your calendar now so you can contribute your time to supporting Dagmar in her efforts. With the economy tightening up the purse strings any business or personal donations sent our way will be appreciated. Remember this is a free event to participating young anglers. With the Calhoun Catfish Derby ceasing operations it is even more important to ensure we are there for the kids.
The boys of summer will be back in early April to get our docks refurbished and the property cleaned up in time for these events that mark the leisure days ahead. Contact us by phone, 905-687-6335, or by email st.catharinesgamefishasso@bellnet.ca , if you can help on any of our work days. Remember that half of this crew is over 60 and the other half over 70. Need I say more?
The next general membership meeting is Monday February 23rd at 7:30.
Introduce a new member and help grow the club.
