3. Janet Melanson won $36 in the 50/50 draw.
4. JM: introduced PP as our interim acting secretary until the next elections.
5. TC: Treasurer’s Report: (2 pages, attached)
Summary Balance Sheet (cash basis as of Dec. 31, 2008)
-SCGFA currently has no outstanding debts
-Notes: Assets include $1,300 (Brandon DeSantis prize fund) and $4,971.71 (Kid’s Day) and a working balance of $15,489.75
Petty cash of $21.85 plus $100 launch ramp float
Liabilities include the DeSantis prize fund minus GST credit of $43.86
Preliminary Proposed Budget for 2009
The Ontario government has proposed a change in Harmonized Sales Tax, which would affect our revenues. The biggest effect would be seen in our daily ramp fees (estimated $1000 less than 2008). If this happens we should raise our daily ramp fee from $10 to $11 to cover the loss.
6. DG & JM: The derby committee plans to work on the fall derby. The spring derby rules and regulations have been published on the SCGFA website. A full report from the Derby Committee will be presented at the February meeting. Cash prizes for the main spring derby, 5 places each in each of the species have been set. Peter’s Tackle will again sponsor a $3000 prize for the first fish caught over a certain weight. The committee is still looking for sponsors for the biggest fish of each week; we have 2 sponsors committed (Grimsby Tackle & Shimano), so far. The minimum weight for a trout entry has been reduced to 10 lb. The entry fee has been increased from $25 to $35 for a single, $40 for a family, and the introduction of a boat entrance fee of $175, which will include the captain and everyone on the boat. For the member’s derby, the boat fee requires everyone on the boat to be a member. 2 more weigh stations have been added: Shortwave Marine in Port Credit and another location to be confirmed, on the north shore. The member’s prizes will consist of certificates rather than actual merchandise.
7. JM: President’s Report
-Looking into a fund raising venture with a local “make your own” wine company. There would be both a red and a white with a SCGFA label. We are hoping for a wine tasting of the available wine at our March meeting. There is also the possibility of having a root beer available for the Kid’s Day derby.
-Will be meeting with the owner of Tredwell Restaurant as to the feasibility of offering to cook the catch for Charter Boat Operators
-We are in discussion with several potential sponsors for the spring fishing derby, including Grimsby Tackle (committed), Shimano (committed), Scotty, Big Jon, Walker, FisherGirl, Thundermist, Henrys Camera, Canadian Tire.
-Kid’s Day Derby: Dagmar will chair this year’s committee. The Derby will not merge with Calhoun Catfish Derby at this time.
-Pens are available for $3 each with the proceeds going to support the Kid’s Day Derby
-We have an ice fishing auger in the club’s inventory – will be donated to the Bradley Memorial Ice Fishing Derby run by Bowen S. to raise funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation
-Do we want a table at the Spring Fishing and Boat Show at the International Centre on Feb. 13 – 16, 2009? We would need volunteers to man the table to promote SCGFA and raise funds for our projects. Jerry needs to know today (Jan. 26) and would like 2 volunteers per half day. Volunteers would get free admission to the Show for the whole day.
-Do we want a table at the Niagara Outdoor Show, Apr. 4-5, 2009? It is held at the Optimist Club in Niagara Falls.
-The Open House at Peter’s Tackle is Apr. 4, 2009. We man the BBQ for this event.
-We need volunteers for the pen feeding, starting the 1st or 2nd week in April, for 4-6 weeks, 6x per day and 7 days per week.
-The ramp volunteers will be the backup to the pen feeding volunteers, in the event of no-shows
-There is a group going to Ringwood on Wednesday, Jan. 28th for an afternoon of volunteer work. There is room for 2 more volunteers. Contact JM.
8. PG: one ramp will be reskinned by Apr. 18. PP and Dave. H. have volunteered to man the ramp 1 day a week. They were assigned Tuesday. Thursday is the only day remaining without volunteers. GD volunteered to do half a day on Thursday. When the weather improves will look at the roof and windows and report on their condition and any need for repairs.
9. Herb S.: Bob Mackie’s Archery School has been charged by the MNR for operating his archery School on agricultural land. A court date of March 20 has been set.
-Herb will be providing copies of the Landowners Magazine at our next meeting. The magazine bridges the interests and rights of private land owners, sporting clubs and conservationists.
