General Meeting Minutes
Mar. 24, 2014
Present: Tom C., Mark P., Bruce M., Paul P. Dagmar M., Chris H., John M., Darryl D., Mike S., George D., Steve J., Dave M., Alex H.
1. Tom: financials
- Mary S. had to return to hospital after her knee surgery with a blood clot in her leg
- our auditors have completed their work and filed their report; our books were in good shape
- $20,000 in GICs set up in bank, $10,000 for 6 months and $10,000 for 12 months
2. Bruce
- Gilbert at Rankin will be coming on Thursday about 5:30pm to put the ramps back in the water
- one dock needs some repair which will be done when the Yacht club puts their docks back in
- property needs cleanup before Kids Day: proposing doing this Saturday
- ramp should startup the week before the derby start
- Peter’s Tackle Open House is Apr. 4-6, with the BBQ planned for Sat., Apr. 5
3. Dagmar
- Kids Day is Sat., May 3
- cash donations have been received so far from: JC Auto, Rankin, Dilts, Police, CJ Marine, Royal Can. Legion, Olsen-Scottile Ins., Universal Collision, 7-Eleven, Can. Tire, Lions Club, Sheehan & Rosie
- coupons or gift certificates have been received from: Bird Kingdom, Murphy’s, Leon’s, Niagara Helicopter, Whirpool, Marineland, Vine Floral, Boston Pizza, Buggy’s, Outdoor Ornament, City of St. Catharines, Parkway Lanes, 7-Eleven
- t-shirts have been ordered & ready in a week or so: Dave Morison can pickup
- Cops & Kids are sending their parcels with 450 grab bags, 450 hats, 450 pens, & 12 rods
- on Wed. will be going to City to get our license for the use of Lakeside Park
- have not heard back from the Yacht Club so will go & see them
- received permission letters from the Health Dept., Fire and Police
- have ordered the portable washrooms and the large tent for registration
- have ordered the trophies
- Falcon mascot will again be present and they will be donating tickets for next year
- Henry’s will be here again to take pictures
- Police & Fire Dept. will again be here and so will Gamaru with their boat
- Grimsby Tackle says our rods will be on the way soon
- going to Peter’s Tackle next week before the sale to pick out my prizes
- have not heard back from MNR
- 7-Eleven will again this year provide the coffee, milk & napkins
- will be contacting 5-6 schools in next few weeks for student volunteers
- in the process of hopefully getting our wieners donated again from Metro
- several promised donations need to be confirmed: McDonalds, Swiss Chalet, Lucky Strike, Niagara Trailers
- will need help Friday, May 2 to set up the tents, if you can help please let me know, usually start about 10 in the morning, weather permitting, need at least 6 people
- also still need volunteers for the Sat. May 3: if you can help or know someone who can, leave me your number and I will call the week before to confirm
4. Jerry
- the Fort Erie Outdoor show was well attended and raised over $600 for the Tackle Share program
- Live Target donated lures, hats and t-shirts: will sell tickets at the ramp for draw prizes
- need volunteers for the Pen Project; getting a minimum 40,000 fish and negotiating for 50,000
- Chinook diary program has ended but replaced by an Angler diary – sign up sheet if you are interested
- brown trout will arrive Tuesday about 1pm
- Lake Ont. Management meetings are scheduled, closest location will be at Port Credit, info available on our web site; interesting topics include the changing food chain for alewifes and pulse stocking in alternate years
- Peter Lee Memorial shore derby will be Mar. 29
5. Mark
- Grimsby Tackle will use our ramp as a weigh station for their Sat. tournaments during May – Sept.
- discussed the spring and summer derbies, handed out copies of the Spring Derby flyer, along with the rules
6. Guest Speaker: Vito Dattomo of “Lord of the Kings”
- Vito shared many tips, tactics and tales from his vast tournament experiences. He brought along many of his rod, reel and bait set-ups so everyone could see how he does things on his boat. There were many questions from the audience with lively debates about different tactics. He talked about his beliefs for the patterns that let him know where to find the fish depending on the time and circumstances.
7. 50/50 draw raised $145.
