To All Niagara Area Hunters & Gun Owners:
Please see the attached notice which was in the paper on Wednesday concerning a proposal to amend the bylaw in Thorold
concerning the discharge of firearms and bows.
We attended a meeting regarding this issue a couple of months back and at the time their reasoning for the recommended changes was pretty lame, not to mention that they appeared to be trying to ram it through without giving the public adequate notice. We do not know if this new proposal is an improvement over the last one or simply a "we've consulted the public and now we're going to do it anyway" exercise.
Even if you do not live in Thorold it is important that we attend these meetings and show them that we are not going to accept changes made for no good reason. If they are successful in bringing this in it is a guarantee that similar bylaws will pop in other municipalities in the Region till there are no hunting or shooting areas left.
The public meetings are at 1800 hrs, October 27th and November 2nd in two different locations (noted in the attachment).
If you can attend one meeting that is good, attending both is better. At the very least you can send an email to the City Clerk expressing why you disagree with this bylaw change. The email address to send it to is: clerk@thorold.com
Thank you for your support in this matter.
