There have been some questions and concerns regarding the slow current slow at Port Dalhousie lately, this is the information we recently received from St Catharines Hydro:
"St. Catharines Hydro has absolutely no control as to the amount of water that comes down the 12 Mile Creek, as it is almost entirely dictated and controlled by OPG’s Decew facility.
This week OPG has shut down all production at Decew as Hydro One is doing some work on the 115 KV lines, and this is the reason for the close to “Zero Flow” in the creek.
The latest information we have received from OPG, is that Hydro One will have the work completed by the weekend. Full flow however, will not return as OPG is taking one of their large generators out of service for refurbishment. This unit will be out of service for approximately 10 months. The result is that we will have between 50-60 % of the normal flow in the creek during this 10 month time period.
The result at Heywood is that when the creek is at Zero Flow, we don’t generate. When we go back up to 50-60% flow we will only have (1) unit in service for the duration of OPG’s generator refurbishment timeline."
