General Meeting Minutes
March 27, 2017
Present: Mark P., Dave Martin, Darryl D., Dave Morrison, Paul P., Mary S., Steve J., Mike D., Ken Y., Janet M., Bill B., Jerry M.
1. Mark P.
- introduced executive
- thanked the crew and Rankin for putting the docks back in
- thanked the crew for the cleanup of the property
- discussion and options for improving the washrooms at the clubhouse and ramp
- discussion as to what you get to be a member
- member division in derbies
- discount on ramp pass
- BBQ: Sat. Aug. 26; John M. will be chef, needs volunteers
- Peter’s Tackle and Grimsby Tackle having Open House and spring sale (Peter’s Tackle is celebrating 25th anniversary
- Lyle: looking for photos to make photo album for Angela at Peter’s Tackle
- BBQ at Peter’s tackle on Sat. of open house (Bruce and Janet)
- new website: can purchase memberships and derby tickets
- archive section on members who are deceased
- social media availability: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
2. Darryl D.
- Spring salmon derby: Apr. 8 – June 3
- changes from last year: 1st place has increased from $2000 to $5000; more places in the Junior Div.
- derby results: both at the ramp and on new website
- up soon on the new website will be a photo page where derby entries can be displayed
- listed weigh stations
- Dave H. brought up the need for additional help at the ramp for the 3x3 tournament
3. Mark P.
- everyone should try to thank our sponsors by sending an email
- the 3x3 tournament will run on the May long weekend
4. Janet M.: Kids Day Derby
- can pre-register on Facebook
- still need sponsors
- need entertainment for when kids are finished fishing
- will have a trophy to enter name of overall winner
5. Jerry M.
- Apr. 25 meeting with Andy Todd on state of Lake ON
- pen project: volunteers still needed for feeding, monitoring
- fry delivery: Apr. 6, 11am
- docks and pens going in: Mar. 28
6. Other
- at our June meeting: maybe the Grimsby Auxillary Marine Rescue Unit; or maybe a Lake Erie walleye talk
- for lifetime club members: we need a plasticized card that they can show who they are
- Jerry: baitfish regs. are changing soon
7. Mark introduced our speakers Greg Amiel (www.fishing4tails.com ) and
Gavin Cameron ( www.getbit.ca )
- both very accomplished and well respected Salmon anglers who run guiding businesses and compete in various tournaments
- use lunar tables to determine best bite times
- discussed their spring, summer and fall strategies including many tips that they developed themselves
