Well I just got the call that this event "Kids Day" has been cancelled for 2017. It is unfortunate but the high water levels have made cancellation necessary for safety reasons. Most of the harbour has already been fenced off and water levels rose again today.

I'm sure this decion was heartbreaking after all the work and money that has already gone into it but it is the right decision. Hats off to those who worked to plan this and to the sponsors who almost made it happen again. Word from the chairperson of kids day is that 2018 is still a go.

Right now it is important to get the word out. Many participants have been attending this derby for years and don't register until the morning of. Several hundred already have registered and will hopefully be getting a call. There's plenty of work for volunteers to do still so please throw your support behind this club and let everyone know to make alternative plans so lighthouse road isn't full of disappointed kids this coming Saturday.
