General Meeting Minutes
Jan. 22, 2018
Present: Mark P., Darryl D., Dave Morrison, Paul P., Mary S., Steve J., Tom C., Ken Y., Bill B., Jerry M., Janet M.
Mark Penner chaired
1. Mark asked if there were any people in attendance at their first club meeting. There were none.
2. Mark – News
- Host Restaurant wants to get onboard with our club
- changing to RibCrib BBQ
- wants to be a derby sponsor and a supporter of our club
- has rooms for our use for meeting nights and for our awards night at no charge
- will offer 10% discount for club members
- will offer 10% discount for anyone entered in our derbies
- offers a good breakfast with lots of space to park boats
- should we hold our March meeting here? Discuss at Feb. meeting
- bass club holds their meetings here: note: they ran out of food at their banquet
- Mark will meet with them and firm up details
- Jocelyn Leung from Angling Outfitters in Woodstock will be our March meeting speaker
- he is an expert in marine electronics
- there has been some interest in getting a method of credit card payment at the ramp
- one of the easiest is a smart phone and a Square device; this service does not support debit payments
- Tom feels that having another method of payment would cause accounting nightmares with accurate HST payments; he is not willing to stand as treasurer if we add this at the ramp
- Jerry: will need this method of payment sooner or later
- Marcel: likes the idea
- maybe leave it for a year and see again next year
- Aldo: worth trying
- Bill: if people know that we have it may get many users
- Jr. Bassmasters would like to continue using our clubhouse on the first Tuesday evenings of the month, voted OK to continue
2. Tom – Treasurer’s report
- we have about $81,000 in the bank, but many cheques written are outstanding
- our accountants have variances back to 2016
- we can expect a hefty accounting bill because of the many irregularities in reporting over the last 2 years
- we are up to date with HST payments
- our net worth is about $101,500 and our total assets about $122,630
3. Darryl: VP report
- our derby committee has been planning for our 2018 derby season
- the numbers for the last 3 years show about 12% increase/year
- spring & summer derbies have both shown good increases
- fall derby has declined in numbers in recent years
- we are planning to do away with the fall derby and extend the spring and summer derbies
- the total payout for the 2 derbies will remain the same as the total for the previous 3 derbies
- the previous fall derby payout will be added to the new summer derby payout
- derby dates: spring: Apr. 7 – June 9 and summer: June 16 – Sept. 3
- the junior div. would increase to have 3 prize spots for all derby fish species
- we decided to not increase ticket prices this year, ie not in the same year we are changing the number of derbies from 3 to 2
- we expect to increase our ticket sales online
- sponsorship is going well: Scotty has returned as our major sponsor
- we will have to clarify the DeSantis prize with the changes in our derbies
- the derby budget is based upon 90% of last year’s sales
4. Jerry:
- Tackle Share: looking for donations to sell at the sports show in order to fund our Tackle Share program
- there is a 95th birthday celebration for life member Joe Montgomery and his wife Carol on Sunday, Feb. 18. Info is posted on our website:

- our original website is now fully viewable again, including all pictures
- we have received from the Normandale fish culture station 2000 2 yr. old Atlantic salmon. Pictures have been posted on our website:

5. Other news
- Don: would like to see more use of our clubhouse instead of facilities like the Legion or the Host restaurant
- Mark will check with Gilbert for timing of putting the docks back in the water before April
- we received a very large donation of wood from Penner Home Hardware Building Centre which has been used to repair the docks as needed
- we need to make up life member cards and distribute to our life members
- we should have available at the Feb. or Mar. meetings, ramp passes for executive and directors
- a proposal was made to donate $10,000 to GAMRU. A motion was made to adopt this and it was passed.

6. Elections
The executive were elected by acclamation:
President: Darryl Day
1st VP: Mark Penner
2nd VP: Randy Hudspith
Treasurer: Tom Copeland
Secretary: Ken York
The Board of Directors required a vote. This was done by completing a paper ballet with everyone’s name on it, and voting for 10 or fewer of the names on the ballet.
The following is the new Board for 2018 – 2019:
Lyle Gayder, Jerry Mitrovich, Steve Jablonski, Chad Thorne, Shane Thombs, Aldo Nava, Dave Hill, Paul Paulin, Mary Schultz, Janet Melanson.
The following were on the ballet for Board of Directors but were unsuccessful: Don Schultz, Bill Ball, Dave Morrison, Claire Thorne, Mike Scrutton.
