I thought you may be interested in work Fisheries and Oceans Canada is undertaking at the Port Dalhousie Piers on the evenings of June 4-7.
As part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Port Dalhousie Piers, DFO’s Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (GLLFAS) will be conducting electrofishing in and around the harbour.
Electrofishing is a frequently used scientific survey method used to determine the presence and abundance of fish populations. DFO fisheries biologists and technicians will be on a boat, mounted with a generator that creates electrical currents that pass through electrodes that are partially submerged in the water. Fish are temporarily stunned, at which point the GLLFAS team will observe the fish in the area and take measurements, if necessary. There is no permanent harm done to the fish as they are only stunned for a few seconds.
They are investigating whether the Port Dalhousie Piers could be home to American Eel – a species of fish identified as "endangered" under Ontario's Endangered Species Act. Completing this survey now will allow the time and ability to incorporate additional mitigation measures, should they be necessary, into planning to rehabilitate the piers.

With the considerable cloud cover today the crew decided to spend some time on the water before their usual evening foray. They had some success and were looking forward to tonight.
