The 2008 Kid's Day took place on Saturday May 3rd in Port Dalhousie. Worms were available free of charge courtesy of the "Worm Wanch".
Contestants ages 2 to 16 caught their own fish with minimal help from their guardians. Fishing continued until 2 pm at which time everyone gathered in the parking lot to see who placed first in each age division. Every child who registered received a free hot dog and a pop as well as a goody bag.
Ages 2-6, 7-11, 12-16 and special needs all brought home prizes. You can see who made last years Kid's Day possible by looking at the "sponsors" board at the bottom of the page, this years sponsors are pictured below and see some of the pictures from this year here "2008 Kid's Day Slide Show".
Fish were measured in centimeters with prizes going to the longest fish in each division. We had official measurers standing by throughout the Port Dalhousie area waiting for children to signal they had a fish to be measured. All fish were measured, identified then released to be caught again another day.
We recommended a life jacket for your child as there are dangerous currents present and the water was still very cold. The Coast Guard was present but we didn't want to make them work if we didn't have to.
If you have any questions about Kid's Day or would like to offer our volunteers a helping hand for next years Kid's Day, please call the club house: 905-937-6335.
Remember, never dump your unused bait in the water, trespass or litter.
Thank you so much to the sponsors ;D
