2009 is a banner year for Chinook egg collection on the Credit River. All the elements have come together ..... temperature, good water flow, numbers and size of fish. You have to congratulate the MEA for their dedication in executing this process every year. The schedule is demanding and inflexible as you have to go with "Mother Nature" and collect your eggs regardless of the working conditions. The days are long and do not end until the eggs are returned to the hatchery in Stouffville and processed. Over 1 million Chinook salmon eggs will be tenderly cared for to provide the necessary fry for stocking, and ultimately the fabulous fishery we all enjoy on Lake Ontario. Check out spoonpullers.com for some additional pics of the work done over a number of days. Thank you to Bruce, Norm and Dave for representing the SCG&F club. The egg collection table. Andy (on the right) ensuring a quality process. Milt collecting. Fin clipping for genetic profiling.
