This year marks the end of the two year term for the current executive. Nominations for President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice president, Treasurer, Secretary and ten directors will be accepted at the October 26th meeting. With sufficient candidates the new executive will be elected at the November 23rd meeting.
No different than with any other organization, an active membership is necessary to meet our goals. Your time is priceless and must be balanced with family. But your volunteer contribution to the club need not strangle the balance. Identify with a role that you are comfortable with and make a commitment.
Will you accept a leadership role and provide direction for continued growth of the club?
Will you exercise your vote in support of a qualified candidate that can best represent the interests of the club in our community?
Chinook Pen Imprinting Project
Our initial year was extremely successful with no losses and probably the unofficial ”best” release stock produced on Lake Ontario. With our efforts the Port Dalhousie area will enjoy a stronger more consistent late summer and early fall fishery when the mature salmon return in three to four years. 2010 plans are in place to increase the project to 20,000 fry.
Kid’s Day
Celebrating the 15th anniversary, Dagmar Miller’s efforts were recognized by a new sponsor, Kid's Cops and Canadian Tire, that work with the Bob Izumi Foundation. They were thrilled with the format and venue, dubbing Kid’s Day a “class” event. The weather was great and a fun day was had by all participants and volunteers. 2010 promises to be especially memorable with some special touches that celebrate the club’s 80th anniversary.
Spring Salmon Derby
Increasing the cost of the Spring Derby ticket in conjunction with an improvement to the prize structure ensured a favorable outcome for 2009. Weather conditions were consistently challenging throughout thus bringing out the best in all competitors. With the new vendor support the derby can only continue to grow in size and excitement.
Fall 50/50 Salmon Derby
While a “little brother” to the Spring Derby, the event attracted a significant number of anglers ensuring a healthy purse for the top fish. This friendly competition is an apt way to close the lake fishery for the season and bolster the club’s coffers.
A special thank you to the volunteers that refurbished docks, operated the ramp, were active in our annual projects and undertook the countless maintenance tasks that go unrewarded. We are all richer in experiences for your efforts.
On a closing note, I put forth this challenge to all 2009 SCG&F members. Bring one new member to the club in 2010. This commitment will provide a resource for ideas and a larger pool of individuals to support club initiatives. With a minimum campaign total of 40 new members signed up before January 1, 2010, every new single or family membership will get you a ticket in a free draw for a half day charter for a party of four on Lake Ontario! Ensure your name and membership # are printed on the new member’s stub.
This generous prize is provided by Joe O’Donnell of Natural Wonders Angling Adventures. Joe’s proven success record and bubbly personality will ensure an experience of a lifetime.
