The evening has been scheduled for every Thursday, but check the site calendar to ensure we are meeting as some meetings will not be held to respect holidays and other events. The group that has been attracted to this opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge, and learn from one another. There is no formal structure. There is no fee.
Our first meeting was November 26th with eleven in attendance. What an enthusiastic group! Stories of fishing trips and helpful information on fly tying just bubbled like an artesian well. We had a wide range of abilities in tying and fly casting represented, but the group gelled like a well managed sports team. Thank you to Joe Montgomery for bringing his "fly tying" course to the group and providing instruction on tying the Mickey Finn. Throughout the exercise Joe thoughtfully provided tidbits of whys and hows to make the learning experience more enjoyable and successful. Many of the other experienced tyers shared their knowledge as the questions flowed. As with anything in angling, nothing is constant. If this first evening is any indication, every time you attend you will come away with some new valuable tidbit to improve your fly tying and angling experiences. Everyone agreed to meet next on December 10th, foregoing December 3rd in favor of Joe Montgomery's Ice Fishing Seminar at the CAW Hall. Until then, practice your "Mickey Finn" pattern and bring the result of your efforts to the next meeting. Cheers, Jerry
