As the year draws to a close, so does my two year term as president. The days have passed rather quickly and progress remained slow, but positive none-the-less in a downturn economy. Success of any measure is only possible with the support, encouragement and critical eye of others. To this end I owe a debt of gratitude to the sitting Board of Directors and the executive comprised of Doug Gauthier, Paul Groves, Paul Paulin and especially Tom Copeland.
With this team we managed to cut our fixed expenses, grow our bank account, solidify the Spring Derby and venture into imprinting Chinook Salmon. There are plenty of opportunities to continue growth of the club membership, and rekindle the actions of past executives, who were very active in promoting and protecting the outdoors. The newly elected executive are now charged with this responsibility and deserving of the general membership support. You can start by attending meetings and voicing your opinions and lending a hand wherever you are willing.
Dagmar Miller remains the outstanding chairperson responsible for the ongoing success for Kid’s Day. She deserves continued unconditional support from all ranks and sponsors, bar none. To her I wish all the best in her caring efforts.
The positive cash flow was possible due to the volunteer efforts of the “Dirty Dozen” (reminds me of the old war movie) that staffed the boat ramp from April to October. Along the way they managed to provide maintenance services to keep the club site clean and in repair. Dave even managed to develop culinary skills that regularly draw a group to Tuesday’s lunch. I take off my hat to this dependable team.
For the immediate future I will continue to play a very active role, chairing the Pen Imprint Project and assisting with the Spring Salmon Derby support recruitment. Recently I initiated the “Fly Fisherman” Thursday evenings to give this group of anglers a forum to share, learn and socialize. From the initial gathering it would appear we have a very energetic and enthusiastic group that is bound to grow.
May everyone enjoy good health and warmth of family in the coming festive season!
Cheers,
Jerry
