Long time member of the St. Catharines Game and Fish Association, Thomas Thorpe has bid us fairwell. A number of generations have benefited from Tom's contributions and support of the club over the many years.
We extend our sincere sympathy to Connie and the family at this trying time.
THORPE, Thomas –
Born December 21, 1916 in the ‘village’ of Port Dalhousie and having recently celebrated his 93rd birthday, Thomas passed away peacefully in the early morning of New Years Eve, at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie. He is survived by his bride of 67½ years and love of his life Connie, his beloved children: daughter Suzanne and son Paul (Deb Lenz), many nieces and nephews, and will be dearly missed by his buddies ‘Jimmy’ Arthur and Charlie Clark. He is predeceased by his brothers Charles, Bobby and William, and his sister Florence. As a young man he sailed the Lakers, worked at Anthes Imperial as a tool and die maker, and was well known around town as the bow-tie wearing TV repairman of Tom & Gord’s TV Specialists and later Tom Thorpe TV. He was a member of Pt. Dalhousie Power and Sail Squadron, the Sporting Clubs of Niagara, and a lifetime member of St.Catharines Game and Fish Association, well known as the ‘worm man’ on Kid’s Day. He had a great love of everything outdoors including fishing, hunting, and gardening. Many thanks to friends and neighbours for their help and support during some of our difficult times: Joan Townsend, Erna and Henry Kopeschny, Jim Arthur, Joan and Charlie Clark, Judy and Bev Arbour, and Pam and Brian Daniels. Special thanks to Paramed Staff – Karen, Buena, Candy, Luz and Natasha, Dr. Whitty and staff, and the staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital C3 East (Sept.13-Oct.21). Also a huge Thank You to the First Floor Staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie where Dad has been since October 21. There are too many of you to name – nursing, personal care, dietary, hospitality… you have been like an extended family to us for the past 10 weeks – thank you! We know that Dad was in caring hands.
According to Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will follow at a later date. Donations in Tom’s memory to the St. Catharines Game and Fish Association Annual Kid’s Day Derby, the St. Catharines Humane Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family and may be made through HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, (905-684-6346). On line tributes can be made at www.MeM.com.
