General Meeting Minutes
March 22, 2010
Present: Doug G., Tom C., Paul P., Don S., George D., Bill B., Jerry M., Jerry B., Charlie C., Jason P., Brandon D., John M., Mary S., Paul A.
1. Doug: there was a problem with the election for President and the executive have voted to call for a re-election at the April General Meeting.
> Percy: doesn’t believe the executive have the power to call for a re-election because of the club’s Constitution.
> John: once the re-election is over, we should clarify the process of elections and handling disputes.
2. Tom C.: Treasurer’s Report (Jan. – Mar. 10, 2 pages attached)
> Profit and Loss Standard:
>Total Income: $2726.33
>Total expenses: $6136.13
> Net income: - $3409.80
> Summary Balance Sheet:
> Total Current Assets: $28,531.07
> Total assets: $67,620.16
> Total current liabilities: $1058.52
> Equity: $66561.64
3. Minutes from Feb. meeting: web page query regarding the name of the hydro dam: the proposed dam does not have a name as yet but the proposed location is on the 12 Mile Creek near the General Motors plant.
4. 1st VP Report: Don S.: there will be a derby committee meeting on Wed. at 11:30 am.
> New rubber bumpers and pins have been installed on the ramp docks and the docks have been placed in the water.
5. 2nd VP Report: George D.: this year’s ramp volunteers have been found as well as a few extra in case of need.
> George will clean up the yard before the start of the derby
6. Jason: the Peter Lee Memorial Derby was held yesterday.
> 1st place: Josh Bowes: $670: rainbow trout, 9 lb. 9 oz.
> 2nd place: Ray Thompson: 8 lb. 8 oz.
> 3rd place: Joel Lehey: 8 lb. 4 oz.
> the raffle for a rod/reel combo raised $97
> a total of $239 was raised for Kid’s Day
> a total of $572 was raised from the 5 derbies for Kid’s Day
> thanks to George D. for providing an excellent beef on a bun.
7. Dagmar has requested that the club fund her to go to a seminar on fundraising and sponsorship. The club has agreed to fund both Dagmar and Mary S.
8. The day permits for our ramp will continue to be $10 until July 1 and then they will go up to $12. The increase is due to the HST.
9. New business:
> Jerry M.:
> Peter’s Tackle Open House is Apr. 2-4
> volunteers needed to man the BBQ on Saturday: Bruce M., George, Tom, Bill, Don.
Bruce will contact Angela regarding details
> Niagara Outdoor Show is Apr. 3-4, from 9am – 3 pm; Jerry needs help on our booth to promote our Pen Project, sell memberships, and sell derby tickets
> fin clipping at Ringwood is Tuesday, Mar. 23. Be at the clubhouse at 8:30am and return about 7:30pm.
> delivery date for our 20,000 fry for our pens is about Apr. 11. We will need volunteers to fill the feed boxes and take temperature and dissolved oxygen readings at 8am, 12pm and 6pm.
> our new docks for the pens will go in next week then the pens and nets will go in. Norm will store the docks and pens in the off season.
> Dalhousie Yacht Club is willing to share the cost of putting up a new sign at the corner announcing the direction to both clubs. We should check with the City first to ensure no problems with them regarding the sign. The sign should be held in place with steel and concrete to make sure it lasts.
>Percy: a native group is looking for turkey feathers (tail & wing) for dancer’s costumes
> Jerry:
>the fly tying group is having a BBQ on April 22. 15 guys participated as well as 3 young boys. Joe M. led the sessions
> got a lead on a guy who is willing to join our club and re-start our hunting group
> (from Dan A.): members can renew their memberships in the OFAH at a reduced rate. Contact Dan for details.

> Asian Carp: sent letter to politicians, recommends other members send letters of concern to politicians; Jerry will post letter on our website
> motion passed to send letter from the club to the email addresses on Charlie’s letter
> Bruce and Bill A.: 15 Mile Creek at Charles Daley Park: the fish spawning grounds have been stripped and decimated by the landowner on the east side
> has sent letter to various government levels expressing concern for the future of the wildlife in the area.
> motion passed to send a letter from the club to various governments and copy the OFAH
> Dagmar: Kid’s Day is May 1
> Mary S., Jason and Brandon are helping her out
> several sponsors returning
> need someone to pick-up some prizes from Bass Pro Shops in Vaughan
> Avondale stores will be putting signs up
