Executive Present: Doug G., Tom C., Paul P., George D., Bill B., Jerry M., Jerry B., Joe M., Jason P., Brandon D., John M., Charlie C., Mary S., Paul A.
1. Doug: The election for President will take place first. Tom requested a show of hands for those that are paid-up members. There was only one person in attendance who was not a paid member and was instructed that they could not vote.
Percy: Does not believe we need an election since Doug was elected properly already.
The reason for the election was repeated. [see Mar. 22, 2010 minutes]
Both Doug and Jim gave short speeches.
There were 29 ballots cast by secret paper ballots. Each candidate appointed a person to oversee the counting and Tom appointed a person to do the counting. Doug G. was elected President. A motion to destroy the ballots was carried.
2. The minutes of the previous meeting have been posted on our SCGFA website as well as the bulletin board in the clubhouse.
3. Tom: summary of our bank balance which is currently at $32,934.13 (1 page summary)
4. Bill: tried to summarize the leaderboard for the Spring Derby.
5. George: The yard cleanup is half done and will be done by Saturday. Would like to kill the grass and weeds at the fence line.
6. Doug: Boat Ticket for the Spring and Members Derby must remain as last year, ie the ticket remains with the boat and is not transferable with the captain on other boats. This will likely be changed for the fall derby.
7. Doug: the pen fry need volunteers for the continuing feeding and monitoring as well as on May 10, the release date (May 11 if required by weather).
8. Doug: We have invited Lorne Morley from the Carp Anglers Group to speak at our meeting on May 17, on successful approaches to carp fishing.
9. Doug: Thanks to Tom C. for the latest repairs to our Lakeshore Rd. sign.
10. Doug: Tractor trailers are parking in our lot across the road. It is against our lease with the City to allow anyone but boat trailers to park there. Jim A. and Dagmar believe that that end of the parking lot belongs to the City and therefore, it is their responsibility to control it. Jerry M. says that the City told him that it is our responsibility to control the overnight parking of the truckers. . Bruce: There are No Dumping sign across the road but lots of dumping going on: ie people ignore the signs. We decided to make up a notice and leave it in their windshield that overnight parking is not allowed, and if the problem persists, notify the By-law enforcement people.
11. Doug: letter from Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Natural Resources, to Charlie Clark, in response to request for help regarding Asian Carp problems, read to membership. The letter does not make reference to the problem of the Carp being smuggled into Canada in trucks. Bruce: Ontario does not have the resources to check all trucks crossing our borders.
12. Doug: the US Supreme Court has refused to get involved in the Asian Carp problem regarding the Chicago Shipping Canal and the potential invasion of the Carp into the Great Lakes. The motion by the State of Michigan was denied.
13. Doug: Our commemorative hats are ready to go to print.
14. New Business
Percy: what has happened to the shoreline erosion problem at Charles Daley Park? Bruce: the MNR has had erosion control put in place. The Federal Dept. of Fisheries will not do anything regarding this problem.
Joe M.: the fly tying group had a BBQ for the Group which included some kids that were very keen on learning about fly tying and fly fishing.
Dagmar: she has raised $1600 for prizes for Kid’s Day. This is down from previous years so there will need to be a bigger search for sponsors for next year.
Gerry: do we have gift certificates for ramp charges? If we do, we should advertise that we do. Several members said that ramp passes have been bought for others as gifts. We sell the actual pass in these cases.
There was a discussion as to whether we should have a table at the Welland County Fair but everyone believed that the $500 cost would be hard to make up in sales.
There was a discussion on the reimbursement for mileage when driving on business for the SCGFA. There was a motion to reimburse $0.35/km which did not carry by a vote of 9 – 12. There was a motion to reimburse $0.20/km which did carry by a vote of 12 – 3
Next meeting is May 17 due to the Victoria Day Holiday falling on the 4th Monday in May.
The 50/50 draw was won by Dagmar and paid $48.
