Finally got the boat wet today. Fished from 7:30 to Noon. Where did all them cormorants come from. There is a problem here.
Fished from 40 feet to 200 feet. Marked fish and bait in front of Weller and spotty patches of fish/bait going to the bar. Did not have one nibble. Threw everything at them. Some really big marks sitting around 40 feet in 140 feet of water but they were by themselves, loners. Inside bar is loaded with bait and lots of fish hanging all around the bait balls. Tried to catch a laker for last hour but did not have any luck. Oh well, we will try again once the winds slow down.

Monday afternoon there were tens of thousands of cormorants flying south following the Welland canal. I live on Bunting Road, parallel to the canal, and made note as I drove home that the flocks went on for miles as far as you could see. Definitely a population surge this year. I wonder if they are nesting on Lake Erie and flying to Lake Ontario to feed on the abundant bait fish. Either way not a good sign!
