I just heard that if you have a VHF radio you will not be able to even have it on if you don't have a liscence? Does the St. Cath Game offer this VHF course at all? Maybe we should look at having a course at the Club. Matt

I have been looking for a course that is local but with no luck. Sign me up if there is an evening course.

The DYC this week completed a course for VHF radio licenses that a number of members attended to obtain theirs. This was posted at the ramp and on the DYC road sign. If a sufficient number of members are willing to pay for the course, it should be tabled at the next general meeting May7 17th.
A number of anglers are talking about reviving the CB for general chatter on Lake O. Most still have one in storage and no license is required. I'll post a thread if the movement takes hold.

Just my luck. Not able to launch the boat until late to read a piece of paper and definately not being able to see a DYC sign. Wish some website had this posted, I would of attended for sure. I have checked the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons website but all the courses so far are too far to drive to.
Maybe another time, Rob!

What kind of cost would we be looking at for the course?

I don't know if it is fixed or not. I'll let yopu know once I've talked to someone that completed the DYC course.

The course I believe cost $80 at DYC and that included the study materials and exam. They let a few of us pay $30 to just challenge the exam without the course but after barely passing myself I'd suggest taking the course. There was just quite frankly a lot I didn't know studying myself especially the part to do with DSC which is now mandatory to get your certificate.
The guy that runs it is named Eric Meth of the Dalousie power squadron. His email is emeth@iescomm.ca. Send him a message if you want to set something up or find out about his next planned course.

I emailed Eric and he said he would hold a course if he could get 4 or 5 people.

Okay, this is sweet. A course that is close to home. Sign me up. Please post and/or email when there is enough people. Hmmm......am thinking if this is for sure, maybe some administrator could post this on pullers or other sites.
Later, Rob!
