While many boaters have a radio in their boat, many have not acquired the necessary license to legally" operate one. Evidence suggests the authorities are abandoning their lax enforcement and issuing expensive fines to those not complying. There are a number of resources available to address this need. However with the potential to have our own class at the clubhouse, we are canvassing for individuals to sign up to form a class. Instruction and testing would over two Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 9:00 pm at a cost of $65.00 each, or $60.00 if the class exceeded 12 individuals. Non-members are also welcome! Please PM me by Sunday if you are willing to commit to a class. An update will be posted on this thread.

I am signed up. Would be nice not to be ribbed by Bob for not telling him where the fish are due to my lack of a ROC license.

Lack of interest will leave everyone to address their own personal needs. If you are in St. Catharines, the Dalhousie Yacht Club will have a course in April, but their dates have yet to be finalized.
Those closer to Niagara Square can find details of a course on KIJIJI.

Here is the information I received by email today. Hope to see many of our members get their certification this year. The next Port Dalhousie VHF Marine Radio course leading to the ROC(M) Certificate will be held April 12, 19 and 26 at Holy Cross Secondary School, 460 Linwell Road in St. Catharines. The 3 evening course will be 3 hours the first 2 nights with a quick review and exam on the 3rd night. Registration on-line is preferred but not absolutely necessary. Here is the link: www.cps-ecp.ca/public/public.asp?WCE=C=56|K=236120|CAL=225480 Other 1 day compressed courses will be run during the summer months if you cannot make this one.
