General Meeting Minutes
Feb. 28, 2011
Executive Present: Jerry M., Tom C., Paul P., Joe M., Charlie C., Jason P., Dagmar M.

1. Doug Gauthier: in memory of Doug’s recent death, we observed a minute of silence
2. Interim replacement for Doug: Jerry M. has been appointed by vote of the executive to fill the role of President until the next election. Status on Don's ability to fulfill responsibilities / require directors to be more active considering level of club commitments
3. Financial Report: Tom C. (2 page summary)
- our financial books will be audited on Friday
- our hydro bill has had a big increase
- bank balance: $32,694.20
4. Pen Project
- bank balance for project: $2323.
- Feed the Fry Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th - BBQ?; Paul and Dave H. volunteered to be part of the bbq committee; this tournament typically raises $2000 for the project and is run by the Strait Line Anglers Club. Daily launch ramp fees will be waived for all boats entered into this tournament(voted/passed) .
- new expenses - two feeders 2X $369.23 = $738.46 + $96.00 = $834.46
- membrane kit (6 pack) $104.35 + $13.57 = $117.92
- we will be raising 30,000 fry in 3 pens this year and will hold at this amount until we evaluate the results of the effort
- fin clipping at Ringwood will be March 22, contact Jerry to volunteer to go.
- dock and pen installation will be March 29
5. Host A Veteran Fishing, July 1st (no blow date)
- outline program - our proposed role / BBQ breakfast bacon & coffee) /
- partnership with Legion / entertainment / afternoon BBQ
- ramp will require extra staffing
- sale of $5.00 pins
- sponsoring a veteran ($250. or start a pledge sheet / donating your vessel (ensure your insurance will cover this) / matching vets and volunteers
- Bronte/Oakville, Port Credit, Port Dalhousie (Jerry is co-ordinator for south shore)
- monies to registered charity for vets "Military Family Resource Centers "

6. Marion Daniels, biologist with the MNR Lake Ontario Management Unit, had to cancel speaking at the general meeting on the state of Lake Ontario, due to illness. She volunteered to speak at the April meeting.
7. Salmon Derby
- review structure / sponsorship / signoff on flyer (copy attached)
- there are some major changes to the rules & regulations from previous years: everyone should read and understand the rules & changes
- because of the number of sponsors, we will offer some prizes as merchandize instead of cash
- need new sign for standings
- must verify/calibrate scales
- Canadian Fishes book giveaway
8. Niagara Outdoors Show tables March 12 & 13, 9:00 to 3:00, Jerry needs help to man our booth
9. April 2, Peter's annual open house (BBQ), Bruce & Paul volunteered, others??
10. Ramp volunteers
- anyone interested in volunteering at the ramp this year should contact George D.

11. Kids Fishing Derby : Dagmar Miller

- need to buy or rent additional tent(s)

12. Tackle Loan Program : Larry Darbyson
- 3 different levels of equipment geared to age(up to 16)/experience
- any equipment donated that cannot be used in the program will be sold and the money used to support the loan program
- ramp staff will have to be trained
- inventory control system being developed (OFAH model?)
- Joe M.: can get bulk fishing line for the program
13. Club Sub-Lease
- expected extension to April 30th, 2012 to coincide with city's lease with the Federal government
- Dave Macklem supports our proposal for 4 X 5 year terms on renewal / rate status quo (recovery of primary lease)
- outstanding is a lease committee to review the opportunity for future property improvements (building/sanitary) and make proposals to the membership
14. Toronto Sportsman’s Show (Mar. 16-20)
- Metro East Anglers need volunteers for their booth, especially weekdays (free admission for volunteers)
15. Maritime Radio Course (VHF license)
- our local Power Squadron will not be offering the course this year
- there is a course provider in Niagara Falls who will offer course at our club for $65/person (minimum 6) or $60/person if minimum 12 registered
16. Fly tying workshops
- Thursday evenings, 7-9pm
17. Larry D.
- March meeting: speaker will be Jim Greenaway on antique fishing tackle.
- Get your favorite item appraised for a loonie, donation to Kids Day.
18. Jason P.: 4th Peter Lee Memorial Derby: Saturday, March 19. Shore Trout Derby In Port Dalhousie
19. 50/50 draw
