General Meeting Minutes
March 28, 2011
Present: Jerry M., Tom C., Paul P., George D., Charlie C., Mary S., John M., Dagmar M.
1. O Canada
2. TC Financial report (3 pages attached)
- Profit & loss
- Summary balance sheet
- Account activity
- motion to accept, voted, passed
3. Ramp operations
- ramps have all been put in the water
- we can start charging for use of the ramp on good weather days
- Peter’s Tackle Open House, Apr. 1,2,3
- Paul, Bruce, George volunteered to man the BBQ
- Jerry has the package of tickets: membership, derby, ramp pass
- Free Kiko lure for every member signed up
- Doug G.: a brief summary of his death
- Don S.: a brief summary of his heart attack, recuperating at home
- volunteers for the ramp: we will need some help, even part days could be useful
4. VHF Radio course
- none scheduled at the Dalhousie Yacht club at this time
- none scheduled to be held at our club at this time
- there is a course and testing going on at Niagara Square Mall, NF
5. Niagara Outdoor Show
- traffic was light with very few willing to sign up
- Andy Pallotta from the Spring Fishing and Boat Show has booked the Niagara Convention Centre for 2012.
6. Loan tackle program
- manned by ramp staff (will need to be trained)
- we will go up to age 16
- some donations will be sold to pay for additional tackle for the program
7. Cleanup
- George will need help for the spring cleanup (contact George to help out)
8. Host a Vet Derby
- is a registered charity
- 5:30am – 6:30 am : BBQ breakfast (Jerry looking for sponsor)
- 6:45am : pre-derby meeting
- our local legion is involved: hosting an afternoon BBQ
- volunteers needed to knock on business doors for sponsorship
- need boats, vets to register, money(sponsors)
- Jerry has contacted local charter captains
- contact info is listed on our Spring Derby flyer
9. Pen docks and pens
- docks: Tuesday
- pens: Wednesday
10. Delivery of fry for pens
- scheduled for Apr. 10 if water conditions are suitable
- changes to schedule will be posted on web site
11. Pay Every Day Derby
- run by Dr. Bob & son
- asked SCG&F to be a weigh station
- since Peter’s Tackle is already a weigh station for PEDD, we declined (motion/voted/carried)
12. Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Symposium
- April 9, 2011 at the Waterside Inn, Port Credit
- free admission but must pre-register
13. Antique fishing equipment demo, presentation and evaluation
- by Jim Greenaway
- Jim gave a passionate talk on the history of the fishing tackle industry in Canada along with examples of antique lures, and the reasons why collectors will pay for your “old junk”
- the value to a collector will depend on its age, condition, rarity and colour.
- Jim appraised many antique lures, reels and rods of our members
