Here we are again in the fall of the year, reviewing the past boating season and preparing for the stream runs of browns and rainbows, and even prepping our hard water gear in great anticipation.
This past year was a banner year for those that were able to work the challenging weather. MNR studies indicate that the Lake Ontario catch rate is at it's highest since the study began. This bodes well for those that make Lake Ontario their preferred destination when planning a fishing trip.
As with any type of angling, adjustments to our presentations promoted a high success rate this year. These changes will fuel our need for new tackle in the latest hot colours and make our "must have" shopping lists for the 2012 season. For those that are retiring some of their tackle and related equipment to make room for the new "stuff", whether it be for trolling or shore angling, consider donating it to the SCG&F club. Suitable equipment will be worked into our inventory of loaner tackle for youth to have a memorable angling experience. Items that do not fit the program will be sold at one of our yard sales to generate funds for purchases of items that we still require. We accept everything in good condition including terminal tackle, rods, reels, sonar units, nets, bait buckets, digital cameras (to record the experience), fly tying equipment & supplies, .....
Some have already stored their craft and are sampling the stream fishing in Port Dalhousie and the Niagara River. The current cooler weather and rains are bound to draw the browns and rainbows, feeding the angler's need.
Mark you calendar to attend Joe Montgomery's Annual Ice Fishing Seminar December 7th. Details are posted in the Fishing Forum.
2012 executive elections at the November meeting will introduce some new faces to our leadership group. They will certainly be challenged by the economic times to maintain current club activities and grow the membership. Considering that the club was founded in 1930, they should not find the next two years daunting.
Stay safe in your activities, and share your experiences!
Cheers,
Jerry
