General Meeting Minutes
Oct. 24, 2011
Executive Present: Jerry M., Tom C., Paul P., Don S., George D., Bill B., Jerry B., Joe M., Charlie C., Mary S., John M.
1. Singing of O Canada
2. JM mentioned that Dagmar is home from the hospital and doing a little better.
3. JM introduced Andy Todd and Marion Daniels from the MNR, our guest speakers.
4. Don S.:
- 7 draw prizes from the member’s derby have not been picked up yet, some of which are Big Jon certificates which expire at the end of Dec., 2011. Any prizes that are not picked up by the November meeting will be used by the club as future prizes.
5. George D.:
- all but 1 of the ramps have been removed
- the ramp has been well used lately by fishermen who have been fishing the channel
6. Tom C.: Financials (3 pages attached)
- current bank balance: $32,280.74
- net loss for 2011: -$4923.50
7. JM:
- the loss for 2011 was mainly due to the ramp useage being down and the derby participants being down
8. PP:
- read the agenda item submitted by Dan A. regarding a policy by the City of St. Catharines regarding the threat from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
- the City introduced an action plan for the implementation of the Urban Forestry Management 2011 – 2013 in February, 2011 as reported in the Council minutes (includes a section on the threat from the EAB)
- a report on the threat evaluation response was presented to council in September, 2011
9. Election of Executive
- voting for the executive positions will be held at the November 28th meeting
- nominations can be made any time until the November meeting, however we will require the nominated person to sign an agreement to run for the position (this change will hopefully eliminate the problems we experienced at the last elections)
10. Joe M.:
- handed out pamphlets for his 2012 Ice Fishing Show, Dec. 7, 2011
- briefly described some of the top prizes
11. JM reintroduced Andy and Marion
- Andy Todd, manager of the Lake Ontario Management Unit, and Marion Daniels, biologist of the Lake Ontario Management unit provided a number of updates on "What's Happening on Lake Ontario".
- they discussed the fishing assessment of Lake Ontario for 2011, comparing to previous years, updating the info presented at the April Symposium, including updates on Normandale, Ringwood, the Chinook Diaries, lamprey, and the new MNR research vessel, the Ontario Explorer
- there were numerous questions from the members regarding the MNRs info, including info supplied by New York State
