Another year is well on its way. With the mild winter to date, some are already focusing on the preparation for the upcoming open water season, while others remain committed to their “ice gods” in hopes of saving the hard water season. Many will be heading to the Toronto International Boat Show this weekend to check out the latest product developments and perhaps find a replacement for their current ride. Yes, life is great in Niagara!
The St. Catharines Game and Fish commences the new calendar year with several new faces on the executive team for a two year term. I look forward to supporting their ideas and enthusiasm to bettering the club and bringing outdoor activities to current and new members. 2012 memberships are now available though our web site, at Peter’s Tackle or at the clubhouse general meetings. Membership dues remain at $20.00 for a single and $25.00 for a family.
A common question from prospective members is “What do I get for my $20.00?” From a personal perspective, membership brings you to a group of outdoor enthusiasts that will share their knowledge and experiences, and provide a camaraderie in fishing, hunting, and conservation. We are always open to ideas to add support to worthy projects that fulfill the club mandate to educate, to encourage an appreciation of wildlife, fish and their natural habitats, to promote hunting and fishing, and to aid in the protection and conservation of fish and wildlife and their natural habitats. Being part of our team is a mutual benefit.
Our annual events include the Chinook Pen Imprinting Project, the Kid’s Fishing Day in Port Dalhousie, the Spring Salmon Derby, a members Fishing Derby, the members BBQ, and a Fall Salmon Derby. Numerous volunteer hours have gone in to supporting the collection of salmon eggs and care of the fry. I sit on the MNR Fish Management Zone 20, West Lake Ontario advisory committee, along with Shane Tombs, providing a voice for Niagara anglers.
Please visit our web site to get additional details or drop us a line if you have any questions.

Be sure to renew your membership soon and plan to attend the first general meeting of the year, Monday January 23rd at 7:30. Bring a friend and we will make them welcome!
Cheers,
Jerry
