A number of groups have positioned themselves to fight the closure of the Niagara Regional Police Revolver Club, TSCON being one. The SCG&F club executive will review our position on the matter at the next meeting to determine if a letter of support is in order. Meanwhile individuals can add their voice by contacting Regional Council Members listed at the end of this post.
The following is a communication from TSCON.
Red Alert!!! STOP THE CLOSURE OF THE NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE REVOLVER CLUB!The Niagara Region has terminated the lease of the Niagara Regional Police Revolver Club effective April 30, 2012.
They claim that they are worried about liability and lead contamination. These arguments are FALSE!
Shooting on civilian gun ranges is one of the safest recreational activities in Canada. The club has proven to the Region that it has 2 ½ times the amount of liability insurance required by the Ontario CFO but THE REGION HAS IGNORED THIS.
The Region has NO evidence that lead contamination is a problem on the range. While Ontario has virtually no research concerning lead contamination on shooting ranges, studies done in Europe on lead contained in bullets have shown that there is NO ISSUE with lead polluting soil or water.
The recommendation to close the range was contained in a SECRET REPORT generated by Region staff. The club executive was NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO SEE IT OR HOW COUNCILLORS VOTED. This is how governments do business in North Korea or China, NOT IN CANADA.
If this range closure is allowed to take place it will be the THIRD gun club lost in the Niagara Region in the past FOUR years, all due to government interference. THIS HAS TO STOP!
Whether you are a target shooter or hunter this concerns YOU. All that is required for YOUR range to be closed down is a noise complaint by a neighbour to an anti-gun town councillor who can introduce a noise bylaw to stop the discharge of firearms. All it takes to lose your HUNTING territory is for an anti-hunting mayor to get a bylaw passed to stop the discharge of firearms within 500 metres of ANY BUILDING and hunting will be eliminated in nearly every part of the Niagara Peninsula.
TODAY IT IS THE NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE REVOLVER CLUB BEING SHUT DOWN. TOMORROW IT WILL BE YOUR CLUB OR HUNTING TERRITORY.WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT THIS?
We have some Regional Councillors who are willing to go to bat for us and re-open the issue. This will be done at the Regional Council meeting on Feb. 9, 2012 at 6:30 PM. WE NEED YOU THERE. Bring your wife, your kids and your friends. Gun owners need to show Regional Council that we are aren’t going to be pushed around anymore. If we pack 300 or 400 gun owners into the council chamber THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE NOTICE.
CALL YOUR MAYOR AND REGIONAL COUNCILLORS. They will all be voting on whether or not to reverse this decision. THEY NEED TO KNOW YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LET THIS HAPPEN.
