With all the fishing I been doing lately LilB been bugging to come along. Spring weather always dicey so when I saw that Sunday looked like the perfect spring day and the wife gave me the pass I was on it like stink to give Darkfisher a buzz. We have been talking for a year or so to get the kids out together for a South shore fish but my schedule and his schedule never aligned until yesterday.
I dragged Brayden out of bed at 4 am to get him fed and make the 6 am blast off from Weller. He gets so wired up to go that by the time fishing comes around he hits a wall so I tried to keep him calm. Darkfisher knows the area pretty good being a south shore boy so he had a good plan. We were gonna start out front Weller for a bit then to keep kids interested do a fast run down to the bar. We knew fish were lined all along the shore so we really had no fear of driving over fish. And besides it was to be a fun relaxing day with the kids so we just went with the kid flow. Well it didn't disappoint. We worked 50-80 ft out front Weller for a couple passes and tagged a few fish. The best depth was 60 ft where we banged the bigger ones. Then it went kinda silent for us so the kids wanted the fast run to the bar. We Yahooed our way to the bar and set up shop deep off the drop. Matty had been getting some fish that way so we knew to target the deep depth with our riggers and dipsy divers. It took a minute to get them going then we had our flurry of lil guys and a few decent kings mixed in. We trolled the wall to 200 in and out and had our success that way. 110 on gthe rigger was where majority of hits came and 220 on the divers at 1.5 good. Sea sick waddler spoon and 42 Spinny and Atommik fly were the stand out baits for the day. Found a 2.3.2-5 troll the best in the west direction. The star angler of the day was Ethan as he bravely took on a screaming king on the wire that ran over 400 ft on the first run and landed his PB just a titch over 21. He also man handled the lil guys one after the other and was a great tag team for Brayden who tired out quickly reeling the fish in (LMAO). The 4am wake up call was wearing on the lil guy as you will see in the video and he battles to keep his eyes open but he was a trooper. For a 5 year old and 8 year old battling the kings Ethan and Brayden were great! We ended on the wire diver highlight and we all high fived each other and blasted to port! It was great to get the kids out on such a beauty day and meet new people to fish with. That was Darkfisher and I's first outting together and it was like we had known each other for years. Great dude to fish with and great with the boys! Can't wait till we do it again.
I messed around with the GoPro again but knew my batteries were low so I kept turning it on and off so that I wouldnt miss any milestones. Usually I find it best to keep running to not miss any action...only bad thing about yesterday is I missed parts of the day I wished I got and in editing even accidently deleted parts off my card...whoops. Oh well I think you will get the jist of the day in that we had a blast and that we got a couple young anglers up and coming! Thanks Matty and Ethan for hosting B and I we got some great memories and B learned a valuable lesson to not dangle paddle over side of boat into the waves!!! hehehehehehe
