A fun event which I look forward to each summer is this event.
Its a capped field of 25 boats, some good friendly competition, very reasonable entry fee and its held out of Jordan. Traditionally Gman, Dave Clayton (dwc67) and I have teamed up for this one. Unfortunately our captain Dave had an untimely scheduling conflict this year so Gavin invited a pal, Mike (Zebra, the “Big Ern Dude”!) to come join us.
Crappy weather the last few days leading up to the event kept us off the water with no pre-fishing. Right up untill blastoff we were scratching our heads wondering what our game plan would be.
Came to our chosen spot and saw a couple seagulls on the surface and saw what looked like decent surface temps. While the sonar picture was ok, no rods were moving. Then it happened, the lakers started biting….
Decided to slide outside of the pack, making tweeks throughout the day we would only end up taking 2 king bites.
Since we didn’t end up culling any fish we decided not to weigh them in the boat at all & just wait till the weigh-in.
Turns out the kicker weighed 34.92lbs. Note the adipose fin clip, possibly from the SCG&FA's Port Dalhousie Pen Stocking project??
and with our other it was enough in the end to clinch the win.
It was a complete team effort the whole way as we gelled well and worked away together despite the frustration of a slow pick. Thanks dudes!
I really wish our bud Dave would have been along “for the ride” too for the same reasons, but I enjoyed sharing a boat with Mike, learning & sharing ideas together.
King #1 took a Dalmation rocket & mountain dew flasher
King #2 took a white flasher & Ultra glow/green Atommik Fly (T041)
Big thanks finally to Martin at Grimsby Tackle and his crew for continuing on this fun event which Adrian Fleming got started in co-operation with the SLA club years ago.
And NO we were not all eligible for the GOSD. Do we care? Not at all!
