General Meeting Minutes
Feb. 25, 2013
Present: George D., Tom C., Paul P., Charlie C., Mary S., John M., Dagmar M., Norm C., Chris H., Bruce M., Mark P., Jerry M.
1. Thanks to Guy Citrigno (Black & Tan) of Mossimo's Pizza in Fonthill, for his generous donation to our Pen Project
2. Financials: Tom C.
- current bank balance: $43,747
- our accounts have been audited and approved
- our taxes have been filed and approved
- we no longer have a land telephone line or internet access at the clubhouse; we have changed to a cell phone in order to save money
3. Derby Committee: Mark P. & John M.
- Spring Derby will have similar format to last year, run Apr. 13 – June 8, 2013
- the draw prize will be a Scotty HP downrigger
- Canadian Tire, Marlon Marine and Grimsby Tackle have all increased their donations this year
- Tohatsu could not find a dealer partner to be a sponsor this year
- the Member’s Derby will run from June 15, 2013 – Aug. 10, 2013
- our online mail-in form on our website does not include the option of purchasing a boat ticket: Jerry M. will fix
- Mark has been promoting the derby on the internet through the social media sites; he will also be doing a radio interview where he also plans to promote Kids Day, the Pen Project, as well as our derbies
4. Pen Project: Norm C.
- 4th pen has been built and is on schedule for delivery
- 2 new docks have been purchased and are ready for the water
- the salmon fry are scheduled for delivery on April 9th
- Colin Lake is taking over for Marion Daniels at the MNR; there will be a conference call on Thursday with all Pen Project Managers on Lake Ontario sites
- there is a possibility that we will be allocated any extra fry this year as we have the capacity with the new 4th pen and the ideal water conditions for their growth and survival
- we should have the MNR report on the Pen Projects for the March meeting
- the MNR plans to continue with the salmon diaries this year, for completion by volunteer fishermen
5. Shore Derbies: Steve Robert
- summary of derby held on Feb. 9th
- next shore derby will be Mar. 9th – details on our web site
- Peter Lee Memorial Derby: Apr. 13, 2013
6. Tackle Share: Larry D.
- discussion regarding the expansion to another library branch
- Larry to discuss with contact at Grantham Branch
- more than 36 uses in 2012, with all equipment returned in good shape
- looking for tackle donations to be sold at garage sale in order to raise funds
7. Conservation: Mark P.
- Geoffrey Denyes is the Conservation Officer for Niagara now, taking over from Randy Tippin
- has posted SCG&F on both Facebook and Twitter accounts and will monitor regularly
8. Kids Day: Dagmar M.
- 83 letters and many emails have been sent requesting sponsorship for our Kids Day activities
- new email for Kids Day: kidsdaygamefish@aol.com
- Meridian Credit Union will be a sponsor this year
- has contacted web sites for dentists in the Niagara region, asking for sponsorship
- next year (2014) will be Dagmar’s last year to chair the Kids Day Committee; ideally we would like to groom someone this year to take over when Dagmar steps down
9. Docks/Ramps: George D.
- docks will go in on Mar. 23 if Gilbert is available; George to arrange
- ramp volunteers who have been contacted to date will return, Bill B. will also return, we could still use some volunteers to help fill some spots in our schedule
- water levels are low in the channel, other Lake Ont. ramps will be difficult to use by the bigger boats, may help increase the use of our ramps
10. Garage sale
- tentative date set for May 11, will confirm in April
- have both inside tables and allow outside sales from car trunks
- Jerry M. wants to sell donations to raise funds for tackle share program: any and all donations welcome to help raise funds to expand the tackle share program
11. Future Meetings
- some meetings will be held at the Canadian Legion, including the meeting on March 25th
- Mark has confirmed that Captain Vince Pierleoni of Thrillseeker Sportfishing Charters will be guest speaker at March 25th meeting
- Jerry suggested that we invite Geoffrey Denyes, our new Conservation Officer to our April meeting as well as any Derby sponsors that want to showcase their products or services
- it was suggested that we add some prizes to be drawn to attract a bigger audience
- George D. volunteered to look after the 50/50 draw
12. Peter Lee Memorial bench
- a suggestion was made to approach the City of St. Catharines to have a Memorial plaque installed on a bench in the adjacent park to the clubhouse, near the willow tree
13. Additional Executive signing authority
- Tom suggested we appoint another executive with signing authority because he has had trouble sometimes reaching those with the authority currently
- Tom suggested Paul P. be added
- Tom to arrange with our bank
