General Meeting Minutes
March 25, 2013
Present: George D., Tom C., Paul P., John M., Dagmar M., Norm C., Chris H., Fern S., Bruce M., Mark P., Jerry M.
1. For meetings at the Royal Canadian Legion: no outside food or drinks allowed; hats & caps off while in the building
2. Memberships, derby tickets, ramp passes available tonight as well as at our ticket outlets
3. There are clipboards at the front for volunteers to sign up for various activities, including:
- Peter’s Tackle Open House BBQ, Saturday, Apr. 6
- Kid’s Day Derby, Saturday, May 4
- Pen Imprinting Project, Apr. 9 – May 10 (approx..)
- Pen docks to be put into the water: Wed., Mar. 27
- Pens to be put into the water: Wed. Apr. 3
- Brown trout delivery: Tues., Mar. 26
- Chinook diaries: available from Jerry M.
- Atlantic salmon sampling: available from Jerry
- Ramp: need another volunteer or 2 for backup
4. Yard sale: May 11 (tentative date)
- tables can be rented for $10
- tackle can be donated to be sold to support our Tackle Share program
5. Peter Lee Memorial
- shore derby to be held on Apr. 13
- memorial bench should be in place by then, dedication to follow the derby at 1:30 pm
- a Korean priest has been asked to officiate at the dedication
6. MNR report on Lake ON

- >33% of salmon caught were wild
- very few wild found in the Credit River sampling
- rainbow trout population is increasing
- salmon & trout are feasting on the gobies
- the food chain includes other invasive species
7. Kids Day: Dagmar M.
- > $2400 in cash donated so far, as well as many gift certificates and coupons
- volunteers are still required to help out
8. Financials: Tom C.
- we have $44,127 in the bank
- our net income for the year 2013 is -$54, our main income comes from ramp fees, which don’t start until Apr.
9. Pen Imprinting Project: Norm C.
- docks for the pens will be going in on Wed. Mar. 27
- the pens are all ready to go in
- thanks to Straitline Anglers for their donation of our 4th pen, with financial help from Suncor
10. Derby Committee: Mark P., John M.
- thanks also to Jerry M. and Norm C. for their help
- there is a very good prize structure for the Spring Derby, including a draw prize for a Scotty HP downrigger
- Summer Member’s Derby: June 15 – Aug. 10
- for the Summer Member’s Derby, there will be 5 places in each of the salmon and 3 trout categories, with first place being cash of $2000 for salmon and $500 for each of the trout; another Scotty HP downrigger is also available; motions for the derby to be open to members only, and to guarantee the cash prizes were both carried
11. Guest Speaker: Vince Pierleoni from Thrillseeker Sportfishing Charters, and his first mate, Nick
- Vince & Nick shared their experiences fishing Lake ON in both NY & ON waters for trout and salmon
- they included discussions on invasive species, including gobies, zebra mussels, and water fleas; alewife and smelt populations, nearness of deep water, water temperatures, stained and clear water, sandy vs. rocky bottoms
- they stayed to answer numerous questions from the 60+ very interested fishermen and fisherwomen in attendance
