The St. Catharines Game and Fish has supported numerous worthy organizations in past years, including Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the Ringwood Culture Station. At the October executive meeting the decision was made to partner with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters to provide an annual research grant of $2000.00 for four years. These funds are made available through the sole efforts of the ramp volunteers. Applications for grants are accepted from graduate students attending Ontario universities. Following strict criteria, a worthy recipient is selected to receive the grant at the OFAH Annual conference in March. The SCG&F grants in fisheries and wildlife research fields will be presented in memory of a club member that has made a significant contribution to conservation and promoting the outdoors. We are proud to announce Percy McKay as our first member to be recognized. More senior members will recall Percy's contributions, including championing the cleanup of the Ferrant-Packard PCB dump site, stocking of pheasants and the early efforts to re-introduce wild turkeys to southern Ontario to name but a few. Percy rarely missed a club meeting, ensuring the executive operated with decorum and remained focused on their mandate.
